The Edinburgh Bookshop is proud to partner with Good Friends For Ukraine on a special event to raise awareness of the challenges facing refugees.
Writer and president of the chairty, Julia Peters, will join us with her book Three Little Birds Burning in the Flames of War, based on a real-life story, and tell us about the work Good Friends For Ukraine does.
During the event, there will be a demonstration of a sandpainting animation video created by the renowned artist of Cirque du Soleil, Vira Syvorotkina. The video is inspired by the book.
There will also be a raffle, Q&A and chance to socialise and discuss important topics with others attending the event. The person with the most interesting question for Julia will get a special reward.
All money generated from the event and book sales goes to support volunteers in Ukraine. Both the Ukrainian and English editions of the book will be available to purchase during the event.
About the Book
The book Three Little Birds Burning in the Flames of War shows reality through the eyes of Ukrainian refugees. In an honest and direct way, it tells about the consequences of the war, the personal tragedies of ordinary people, and the engagement of the volunteers. The book is based on a true story. Its main message is, "If you can't change the situation as a whole, try to change it in small details!"
Once upon a time, there were three Ukrainian women…
…A successful one who moved to Switzerland…
…A settled one who loved home more than anything…
…A humble one who lived in the shade of others…
Their lives got corrupted by war, and everything they knew was burned by its flames.
Now these women have to get together in Zurich and make their way to a new beginning through numerous trials and tribulations.
